The Village Room began its life as a purpose-built reading room constructed in stone with a boarded roof covered in slate and with its interior beams exposed in a vaulted roof. It opened to the public in August 1890. Now the Room is a regular venue for meetings including the Parish Council, the Village Society Committee and the Wednesday Group.

The charity provides a building / facilities open space which is used for; education / training, arts / culture / heritage, science and recreation.

Trustees are the people responsible for controlling the work, management and administration of the charity. We have 5 trustees:
Dr Mozi Nami
Mozi Nami, Chairman of the Trustees was born in Iran and received his doctorate in Earth Sciences from Leeds University. After a few years lecturing he joined a research organisation in South Africa working with the Gold & Uranium mines. During his 17 years in South Africa he was very involved in Round Table and Rotarry. During his working life he was also involved in establishing companies in South Africa & Britain. On returning to England he settled with his family in Hampsthwaite.
Peter Capel-Cure
Peter Capel-Cure lives in the village is retired living and is involved in various charities locally - The Village Room, The Memorial Hall & Felliscliffe Alms House. He is an active member of Hampsthwaite Church. He is also involved in a charity in Bradford helping disadvantaged people.
Mark Illingworth
I'm Mark Illingworth, Vice Chairman & Treasurer of the Hampsthwaite Village Room. I was born in this village, where all my children grew up & attended school. It is heartwarming to see my son now raising his own children here. The Village Room holds a deep personal significance for my family. My father was part of the team that revitalized the space back in 1966. He would have been thrilled to witness its transformation into the valuable community asset it is today, constantly evolving to meet the needs of Hampsthwaite.
Helen Brown
I moved to Hampsthwaite in 1990 & realised very quickly what a special place it was. Her son, James, attended the Village School and I soon became involved in the community as a member of Young Wives & helped to run the Sunday School. I became a Governor of Hampthwaite School at an exciting time of transition with structural changes to the fabric of the building and the appointment of a new Headteacher. I have served on the Parish Council and been a long standing member of the Feast & Show Committee. It is a privilege to be a Trustee of the Village Room & be involved with the renovation work to bring this village asset back to life for everyone to enjoy.
Victoria Dixon
I came to live in Hampsthwaite with my late husband, Reg, around 10 years ago, following retirement from the world of secondary education. I was Secretary to the "Friends of Pendle Heritage" where I lived previously and this furthered my lifelong interest in history & heritage. Seeking a similar role in Hampsthwaite I joined the Village Society committee and then the Hampsthwaite Feast & Show. In 2022 I became the Show Secretary. I have really enjoyed being involved in village activities and am looking forward to working with the team on this new venture.
The latest revelations and
renovations
The room has been fully renovated. It is now totally insulated with
underfloor heating, new double glazed windows, a brand new kitchen and
disabled toilet. It is now fully accessible for wheel chair users as the
door threshold has been lowered to street level and all sections of
room are at same level. A store room has also been created from the old
toilet area. With grants from The National Lottery Community Fund we
have installed solar panels and batteries to reduce running costs.
